ESSENTIALS
Instead of doing homework, Im currently trying to convince myself that I need this $200 jacket more than I need groceries. This got me thinking about how I became a master at tryna finesse and make outfits without spending a lot of money. Growing up I didn't always get the chance to get certain pieces I wanted...I simply couldn't afford it. Even now that I am older and work I still sit there and think twice about buying a $160 hoodie because I'm tryna be a responsible and pay for bills or whatever. With ALL that being said... I learned the art of frugal shopping and always found a way to create my style without always having to dig TOO deep into my pockets. It also helped that I am not concerned with name brands... If I like it I'll wear it no matter where it came from. Also, I don't claim to be no fashionista or anything BUT I've had some people tell me they like my style nahhmeaaaan... so of course I decided to write about it. This is going to be a little different than my usual posts, but Im gonna shoot my shot. To start this off it is important to know that fashion is SUB-JECT-TIVE. You gotta wear whatever makes YOU feel good and comfortable. Its okay to experiment and try new things, but ultimately its gotta make you feel good. Also, don't be afraid to try new things and dont give a fuck about what people say (S/O to those who hit me with the "WHAT ARE THOSE" when I first started wearing chelsea boots... EAT MY ASS). With all that being said, one thing that always helps me build my outfits is having a solid set of essential pieces. These are your go to/hold you downs that will help you build a foundation for a fire fit. For me these are things like my black tees, flannels, and hats. For those who know me you know I LOVE me a good flannel. One of the first things to mastering the art of frugal shopping is patience! Being able to take the time and look at different stores is going to help you pick and choose and find new deals. You would be surprised at all the steals I catch for these essentials by deadass just looking around at the most random places. Personally, I love flannels and its something that the you can buy anywhere because realistically the name brand does not matter. As long as it has a nice pattern and good colors no one will know if you spent $10 or $100 on it. Ive found mad flannels for the low at thrift stores, H&M, and online on places like ASOS. The same goes for my black tees, I can pretty much find a black tee anywhere. Personally, I tend to spend a little more money a good black tee that will last (I wear black tees 92% of the time). Places like Uniqlo and Zara will always have better tees than your H&M. Again, its important to remember that if you are buying SUPER cheap clothes they may not last you. I know this post is about mastering the art of frugal shopping but there are certain things you just really have to save up and invest a little money into. Things like your jeans and shoes you should really go for quality so you can use these items for a long time. If you build a solid foundation with these essential pieces it'll be easier to save up and spend a little more on those shoes or that box logo tee you wanna buy. Wearing a good fit is up there with getting a fresh cut or for ladies like getting your eyebrows done. It just makes you feel good and can boost your day. So the next time you going to go shopping, look around, step out of your comfort zone, and be on the look out for the steals!
